One of the ways of acquiring Polish citizenship is by operation of law. It means that in case of certain conditions described by the law we may receive Polish citizenship without taking any other actions.
By operation of law – throughout birth – Polish citizenship is granted to a juvenile if:
In addition, establishing the citizenship of the parents, or the parents, shall be taken into consideration when determining the citizenship of their minor, if it occurred within one year from the date of its birth. It is mostly important in the case of children from informal relationships, when a father recognizes a child before the registrar, or the paternity of a man is determined by a court decision. In such a situation, the child acquires Polish citizenship by operation of law – recognition of a child or paternity must occur within one year from the date of birth.
